Daniel Perese

Kia ora,

My name is Daniel Perese (He/Him). I am a second-year journalism student at the New Zealand Broadcasting School in Christchurch.

During my time as a student at NZBS, I have been able to discover and develop my key strengths in leadership and team-work. I have had the opportunity to reflect my strengths and build on them further in multiple roles, such as Chief Reporter and Producer (one of two selected for TV Metronews).

Currently, I am the only student of Samoan or Pacific Island heritage in my cohort. For me, it is important that diversity is reflected in both a newsroom and when telling a story.

My passion in journalism is primarily focused on stories from the wider community. To date my favourite experiences as a student journalist has included: sharing a happy story about a cafe opening at midnight and also spreading information regarding a social issue about a smell that is affecting a whole city.

I pride myself on my reliability, communication skills, positive attitude, and willingness to learn. I work well in teams and am also self-motivated. Like the media industry, I am always looking at ways to improve myself and expand my skill set. I take on criticism well and ensure I apply it towards my professional craft. This in turn allows me to continue to become the best version of myself.
